RECONSTRUCTION:
Abraham Lincoln started planning for the reconstruction of the South during the Civil War as Union soldiers occupied huge areas of the South. Reconstruction was a success that it restored the United States back to a unified nation by 1877, many of the former Confederate states had drafted new constitutions, acknowledged the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments. Also they pledged their loyalty to the U.S. government.
